Project Backcountry’s patent pending Modular FenderLinks (MFLs) are based on the well-established Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment (MOLLE) system adopted by the United State Military in 1997. The MOLLE system uses the Pouch Attachment Ladder System (PALS) which is commonly seen on military issue packs as rows of nylon webbing. The webbing allows for the modular attachment of many different pouches and accessories. The use of the terms MOLLE and PALS have become synonymous and generally refer to any attachment systems based on the webbed grid pattern derived from the PALS standard. This pattern uses rows spaced at one inch apart (25mm) and columns spaced at 1.5 inches apart (38mm).

The popularity of MOLLE-based products has taken off, and their application has spread throughout both the military and civilian markets. MOLLE systems have traditionally be constructed of high strength nylon webbing for use in soft applications (e.g., military packs), but they have also been introduced in rigid form. Rigid MOLLE systems are typically constructed of steel for heavy duty applications (such as storage systems for truck beds) or high density polyethylene (HDPE) for lighter loads.

The advantage of rigid MOLLE systems is their ideal use for surface mounted applications, including on the interior of vehicles, the underside of storage container lids (such as Pelican and ROAM cases), and in the case of our Modular FenderLinks, the fenders of ATVs. Our Modular FenderLinks add much needed, quick-access storage capabilities to popular ATVs. And since they are based on MOLLE/PALS standard, they open the door to a nearly endless supply of innovative—and often military proven—pouches, storage bags, and accessories.
